From Asheville to the arena

Combs grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, singing in school choirs and learning guitar. He played bars around Boone while at Appalachian State, then moved to Nashville in 2014.

"Hurricane"

He released “Hurricane” independently, it caught fire, and it became his first No. 1 after he signed with a major label. This One’s for You (2017) followed and produced a run of No. 1 singles.

Superstar, everyman

What You See Is What You Get (2019) made him the genre’s biggest draw. In 2023 his faithful cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” introduced the song to a new generation, and the two performed it together at the 2024 GRAMMYs.
