Luke Bryan: Songs, Albums, Biography and Country Career admin
Country Bands | Legendary & Modern Country Music Bands | Wild Country Radio
Before he filled arenas, Cody Johnson rode bulls and sold his own CDs out of Texas dance halls. He’s the rare modern star who got big without sanding the cowboy off his music, and fans love him for it. Here’s his story, his essential songs and albums, and why he’s one of the most important country music artists of his generation.
| Full name | Cody Johnson (“CoJo”) |
| Born | May 21, 1987, Texas |
| Roots | Rodeo, East Texas dance halls, gospel |
| Style | Traditional and neotraditional country |
| Breakthrough single | “On My Way to You” (2019) |
| Signature hit | “‘Til You Can’t” |
| Label | Warner Music Nashville, through his CoJo Music imprint |
| Latest album | Banks of the Trinity (June 26, 2026) |
Johnson grew up in Texas, where church music, George Strait records and rodeo arenas shaped him in equal parts. He competed as a bull rider and worked as a corrections officer while playing honky-tonks at night with his band.
He released a string of independent albums through the 2000s and 2010s and built his audience show by show, the Texas way. By the time Gotta Be Me arrived in 2016 it was clear the independent model was working: big crowds, no major label.
In 2019 he partnered with Warner Music Nashville on terms that kept his band, his producer and his sound. Ain’t Nothin’ to It followed, led by “On My Way to You”, and Nashville finally caught up with what Texas already knew.
| Album | Year | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Gotta Be Me | 2016 | Independent breakthrough; proof the Texas model could scale |
| Ain’t Nothin’ to It | 2019 | Major-label debut, home of “On My Way to You” |
| Human: The Double Album | 2021 | Sprawling, traditional, includes “‘Til You Can’t” |
| Leather | 2023 | CMA Album of the Year 2024; “Dirt Cheap” and “The Painter” |
| Banks of the Trinity | 2026 | 16 tracks produced by Trent Willmon, with Luke Combs and Brothers Osborne |
His shows feel like a Texas dance hall scaled up to an arena: a tight band, fiddle and steel, and a crowd that knows every word. Current tour dates are in our country concerts guide.
Try George Strait, the neotraditional blueprint he grew up on, and Luke Combs, another everyman voice who plays it straight.
Texas. He grew up in the Huntsville area and still calls the state home.
Yes. He rode bulls competitively before music took over, and rodeo runs all through his songs.
“‘Til You Can’t”, the 2022 CMA Single of the Year.
Major releases include Gotta Be Me (2016), Ain’t Nothin’ to It (2019), Human: The Double Album (2021), Leather (2023) and Banks of the Trinity (2026).
He’s a frequent Opry performer but, as of July 2026, not an inducted member.
