One song made the whole world sing along in a honky-tonk: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”. But Shaboozey had been mixing country storytelling, Western imagery and hip-hop rhythm for years before that. Here’s the story of one of the most talked-about country music artists of the decade.
| Real name | Collins Obinna Chibueze |
| Born | May 9, 1995 |
| From | Woodbridge, Virginia, raised by Nigerian parents |
| Sound | Country, Americana and hip-hop |
| Breakthrough | “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (2024) |
| Breakthrough album | Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going (May 31, 2024) |
| Latest album | The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales (July 31, 2026) [VERIFY: official site] |
Shaboozey grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia. His stage name came from teachers and classmates mispronouncing his surname. He grew up on hip-hop and rock as much as country, and early on he leaned into cowboy imagery as a way to tell his own story.
His first albums, Lady Wrangler and Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die (2022), moved steadily toward country, folk and Americana, with Western storytelling at the center.
In 2024 he appeared on two tracks of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET ★ HONEY ★ BUCKIIN'”. Weeks later “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” took J-Kwon’s 2004 hook “Tipsy” into a country bar and became a worldwide hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-tying run. His music mixes country, Americana and hip-hop. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” topped country and all-genre charts, and he records for country audiences, so most fans and charts treat him as a country artist with a crossover sound.
